Research shows that students who participate in internship, student teaching, or research with a faculty member have increased odds of reporting full-time employment or continuing education.

SURVEY RESULTS

According to the University of Arizona 2020-2022 Graduating Senior Survey Report, highlights regarding first-generation and Latinx students include:

Internships Matter

  • First-generation students who reported an internship were over 3X more likely to report full-time employment compared to first-generation students who did not report an internship.
  • Among students with an internship, Latinx students were more than twice as likely to report full-time employment than White students.
  • Latinx students who participated in internships were almost twice as likely to report acceptance into a program of continuing education compared to White students.

First-generation students stay in Tucson & Arizona

Forty-seven percent of first-generation students reported staying in Tucson, and 70% reported staying in Arizona after graduation for full-time employment or to continue education, compared to 31% and 57% respectively for the continuing generation peer group.

First-generation will benefit from additional support in discussing career goals.
